BATHROOM TRIPS | VR INTERIOR DESIGN
COLLABORATORS
Bathroom Trips is a VR project that I developed along with Elena Glazkova and Yiting Liu over the Spring of 2021.
PROJECT
We created four different bathrooms in four different styles, four different realities that will allow you to feel differently every time you go from one to another. Your challenge is to find out how to transfer to another reality, and the way to do it is, hilariously, not something you would expect and yet you do it every time! This time it’ll be something you would hardly forget.
CONCEPT
We believe that each artistic style represents a completely different reality and way of seeing the world, and VR is the best medium to transfer from one reality to another.
Bathrooms are incredibly diverse in design and each one provides a totally different experience. From the luxurious hotel bathrooms to the grungy and packed club bathrooms, each one is its own world and style.
BOHEMIAN STYLE
“Boho” stands for nature and freedom. We filled this bathroom with plants and included a big tinted glass window to create a warm, organic feel. You can sense the light on your skin, hear the sounds of birds chirping outside while taking a hot bath.
In here, you are free to do anything you want.
ABSTRACT STYLE
For Abstract style, we decided to use water as our overarching theme. Water is associated with life, refreshment. We decided to take this concept and give it a playful spin by using water imagery in every aspect of our design.
GOTHIC STYLE
Gothic style is characterized by long pointed arches, flying exterior buttresses, stained-glass windows that were longer than before, ribbed vaults, and spires.
We leaned on references taken from churches but also converted chapels to modern bathrooms.
ART DECO STYLE
The Art Deco design style can bring all the glamour of the 20s to a space. Art Deco, short for Arts Décoratifs, is characterized by rich colors, bold geometry, and decadent detail work. The style still brings in glamour, luxury, and order with symmetrical designs in exuberant shapes.
Geometric and angular forms, exotic materials, and linear decoration. There is no fussiness anywhere in sight in this strong, bold look.
